On the exam you will not be asked to regurgitate dry facts and figures. You will be asked to explain why certain events happened, you will be asked to evaluate, justify, provide evidence and discuss events between 1900 and 1945.

Your textbook:
Study the following chapters:
  • Chapter 1 The causes of World War 1 (p 1 - 30)
  • Chapter 2 World War 1 (p. 31 - 88 only)
  • Chapter 3 International Relations (p 120 - 135, 143 - 159)
  • Chapter 8 Germany 1918 - 1945 (all)

Do Revision questions on page 29, 115, 393, 394

The exam

The exam will be 2 hours and 10 minutes long.
You can not write in the 10 minutes reading time.

There will be three sections:

Section A
  • worth 20 marks
  • Recommended time: 30 minutes
  • 5 short answer questions
Section B
  • worth 10 marks.
  • Recommended time: 20 minutes
  • cartoon analysis with about 3 questions
Section C
  • worth 20 marks.
  • Recommended time: 60 minutes
  • Pick one of the 5 statements and write a 750 word essay.
  • Most statements are either “Discuss of Evaluate” or “To what extent….”
  • Ensure you draw up a quick essay plan and stick to it.
Leave 10 minutes to reread your work.

Note: Please do not write “nazi’s” unless you use it as a singular possessive. The plural for Nazi is Nazis. The plural possessive is Nazis’. Example: “The Nazis' rise to power was partly in response to the German public's desperation for a solution to Germany's mass unemployment brought about by the 1930s Great Depression.”
